Digital signage in hospitals: guide people, inform them, ease the wait

Inform without alarming.

A hospital is a lobby, corridors, desks and waiting rooms — and at every step, someone looking for the way or wondering how long they will wait. With EMITY digital signage, every screen answers the question of the moment, from a single dashboard.

The experiences involved

Six EMITY experiences, one platform for the whole hospital.

01The context

When information travels badly,
everyone pays for it.

In a hospital, information is everywhere — and rarely where it would help. A printed sign dates from the last rota change, reception repeats the same directions twenty times a day, and the patient waiting has no idea whether it will be five minutes or an hour.

Outpatient waiting room: a nurse reassures a mother and her child under a screen announcing that cardiology has moved to level 2 and asking visitors to wash their hands

What makes a waiting room tense is not the length of the wait: it is not knowing.

A department that changes floor, a hygiene reminder, a waiting time to announce: the screen says it the moment the question comes up, and reception stays available for the people who need it.

  • ✓Departments move and clinics change floors: printed signage is out of date before it goes up.
  • ✓Reception is swamped with wayfinding questions, at the expense of the ones that call for a human answer.
  • ✓A wait feels longer than it is when nobody says how long it will be.
  • ✓Hygiene notices and statutory information have to stay current, across several buildings at once.

02The patient journey

Six steps, six screens, one platform

The simplest way is to follow a patient, from the front door to the ward. Six moments, six screens — and one piece of software behind them. Note the last one: it no longer speaks to the patient, but to the teams.

03The benefits

What the hospital
gains.

01Reception can breatheWayfinding questions find their answer on the screen and the kiosk. The front desk keeps its time for the situations that need a person.
02A wait you can bearThe waiting time announced, tickets called without names, reminders on screen: the wait is still a wait, but it stops being an unknown.
03Current information everywhereA department moves, a clinic changes floor: the update leaves from a browser and reaches every screen concerned, across every building.

04On the ground

A hospital is not an office

On the ground4constraints, 4 answers

Four constraints come up in every hospital project.

Each calls for a precise answer.

What a hospital demands of its screens

  • ✓Round-the-clock operation, day and night.
  • ✓Surfaces that stand up to cleaning and hygiene protocols.
  • ✓Legibility that holds for people who are elderly, tired or anxious.
  • ✓Rights per department: each one updates its own screens, nobody touches anyone else’s.

What EMITY brings in answer

  • ✓Compatibility with every manufacturer: screens already installed are connected rather than replaced.
  • ✓Electronic paper where there is neither a socket nor a need for motion — a first for a French software publisher.
  • ✓Master-slave synchronisation for the lobby video walls, with no lag.
  • ✓Taking over an existing estate is possible, including from a competitor.

08Your data, protected

IT security
is our priority.

For the IT department of a healthcare site, it is the first question asked before a screen is connected to the network. No health data passes through the screens. Here is the answer, measure by measure, and the deployment model that suits you.

More than 10,000 hours of development devoted to security

The data from your screens, your visitors and your users stays in France, on infrastructure we control. Development is done in-house: no critical component is outsourced.

  • Hosting in France (OVH) and GDPR compliance across all modules
  • ISO 27001 compliant, certification targeted for 2026
  • Two-factor authentication (MFA) from the Premium plan, SSO with your directory on the Excellence plan
  • Regular penetration tests: anticipating threats rather than discovering them
  • Security assurance and business continuity plans: security, service continuity, playback maintained without internet

Three ways to deploy the platform:

  • As SaaS, hosted by us;
  • On your own servers (on-premise) when your policy requires it;
  • Or hybrid, with management on our side and data on yours.

09Frequently asked questions

FAQ: digital signage in hospitals

Yes. EMITY works with every manufacturer: a professional screen already in place connects with an E-BOX, or directly with E-SOFT if it runs Android TV. Taking over an estate from a competitor is possible too.

Calling is done by ticket number, never by name: that is the rule in a waiting room, and it is what the queue management module does. No health data travels on the screens.

The people you choose. E-MANAGER handles rights per department: the outpatient secretariat updates its own screens, management keeps control of shared messages, and nobody publishes to another building by mistake.

They live in a dedicated playlist, scheduled by zone. One update leaves from a browser and reaches every screen concerned — with no reprinting and no walk round the corridors.

An E-PAPER panel draws power only when the display changes, lasts up to five years on a charge and stays readable with no backlight. At a room door, where the information rarely changes and there is often no socket, it is the right medium.

A pilot for one department is up in a few days: the screens, the connection, getting to know E-MANAGER. The rollout then continues building by building, at the site’s own pace.
